Thirunelli Grama Panchayat is a Grama Panchayat comprising the revenue villages of Thirunelli and Thrissileri under the Mananthavady Block Panchayat in Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad district. Thirunelli Panchayat was formed on 14 May 1937 as per the Panchayat Manual of the Madras Government. The area of ​​the Panchayat is 201.6 sq. km. The boundaries of the Panchayat are Karnataka in the north, Mananthavady Panchayat in the south, Karnataka and Pulpally Panchayat in the east, and Mananthavady Panchayat in the west. Thirunelli Grama Panchayat, which is more than two hundred sq. km. in area, is blessed with beautiful landscape. This village, which is mentioned in the history of Unniyachi and Brahma Purana, has been of great importance since prehistoric times. "Thirugramam" becoming Thirunelli and "Thiricharuli" becoming Thrissileri can be considered myths. This village is associated with the political culture of Varghese, who took the flames of revolution and burned his own life in the flames. The famous novelist P. Vatsala has immortalized this village through his works like Nelli, Agneyam and Koomankolli. The Thirunelli temple, known as the southern Kashi, and the famous Thrissileri temple are also in this panchayat. The ancient Bavali Makham and the vows there are famous. Nagarhole National Park is on the border of this panchayat. The forests of this panchayat are a collection of rare plants and medicinal herbs. The main occupation of the people is agriculture. Two inter-state roads pass through Kattukulam, the panchayat capital.
