History of Grama Panchayat
In Thirunelli, which has 72% forest cover and low rainfall, the Travancore migration and land reforms of 1941 led to the feudal system, which was dominated by slave labour and paddy cultivation, being replaced by cash crops and farmer empowerment. The struggles of trade unions and financial institutions like the Thirunelli Service Cooperative Bank laid the foundation for the socio-economic progress of the common workers and farmers here. The educational activities initiated by the Servants of India Society later grew into prominent schools like the Thrissileri Govt. High School and helped the village achieve national fame in sports. In addition, the historic Thirunelli-Thrissileri temples, Bavali Makham and Christian churches speak of the cultural heritage and religious harmony of this region.
